Each pound of fat you want to lose means you have to either burn up 3500 calories through exercise or cut back on eating 3500 calories. Since the average person consumes about 2000 calories a day, they would have to cut 500 calories each day to lose one pound a week. Exercising boosts your metabolism about 10% for 4 to 6 hours afterwards. If you walk for 30 minutes you'll burn off about 200 calories and double the weight loss.
